From a fine home near Angers in the Loire Valley comes this lovely gilded mirror in original condition and with its original plate. As you can see from the detail picture, the original gold leaf has faded just enough to reveal some of the rich bole (that is the exquisite ‘terra rosa’ color) beneath. Perfect. This is exactly what I look for in a good, original French mirror – where the passage of time has softened the original grandeur to a truly delightful mellow finish.
