A "scumbled" chest is one painted to look like its made from expensive woods, when in fact
its usually made from pine. Those Victorians who could not afford mahogany or oak furniture
still craved that look. Scumbling a piece of pine furniture to look like a more expensive
hardwood was the answer. Good examples are rare and can sell for more than the "real thing".
This small chest of drawers is scumbled to look like quarter sawn oak with mahogany
banding around each drawer. All original locks and turned ebony handles.
Very good condition with some rubbing to top (see picture), but less than might be expected.
