Plinth - Style 13
Knobbled Square - Style 14
While Knobbled Squares are found only in a couple of towns in the center of England
(and are always unglazed), Plinth Chimney Pots are found throughout England and Scotland
on contemporary as well as traditional homes. Plinths can be glazed or unglazed.
Like all English chimney pots they were moulded from terracotta, before some were given
a rich "salt glaze". For the next century, each pot weathered in its own particular way.
Even pots that stood next to each other on a chimney stack for a hundred years or more
developed their own distinctive characters. Each one is unique; its appearance mellowed
by age and history.
Most Knobbled Squares stand around 19 inches.

Most Plinth Chimney Pots stand between 18 - 26 inches.
Chimney Pots make wonderful garden features, adding height and architectural interest
to any display. There is something so pleasing about the contrast between a verdant display of plants and
old terracotta.
They also make wonderful bases for sundials and birdbaths. We have seen them used as bases
for tables (fabulous with a glass top), as housing for patio lighting, and as fountains.
